Deborah Magid

Deborah Magid’s career has spanned most areas of theatrical experience.  She has sung and acted on Broadway, with The Santa Fe Opera, and in venues worldwide; The Sommersault Company, which she founded in 1971, produces mostly chamber opera and musicals; her direction credits span new works, musicals, operas, and comedies.

 

Deb’s playwriting efforts include The Consequence of Impression (Morisot meets the Manet bros), The Ring (Wagner’s Ring Cycle comes between a mother and daughter), Sense & Sensibility (adaptation of the novel by Jane Austen), Being Earnest (pop musical), Cowboy Poet (C&W musical, 2012 LALT, 2011 CPT Big[BOX]), Debate Your Future! (commissioned by the Greater Cleveland Partnership), Descent of a Diva (2010 Melbourne Fringe Festival), Costumbrismo, or Khandihba Wars (comic chamber opera, 2008 CPT Big[BOX]), For Louvre or Manet (2011 LALT 8×10 Festival), Job Hunt (10-minute play), The Queen’s Fool (short verse play, 2010 Santa Fe Playhouse Benchwarmers), Reflections (2011 LALT 8×10 Festival), Shift! (2010 CPT Pandemonium!), The Wedding Night (2009 Humana Festival Heideman finalist, 2009 6 Women Playwriting Festival winner).  She has also contributed monologues and compositions to This Improvised Life and various productions.
